There are a number of French scholarships offered to students from other countries who want to study in France. To apply for these scholarships, the students have to write an essay to convey the reason why they are eligible candidates.
Types of Scholarships in France for international student
There are three main 3 different categories of scholarships in France for international students. These scholarships vary in scholarship benefits, eligibility, duration, selection procedure and are available for a mixture of different educational courses for students seeking to study in France at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

French Government Scholarships
The French Government offers three different scholarships in France for international students for students who want to study in France. They are :
1. Charpak Scholarship Program
It is given by the Embassy of France in India. This French scholarship program provides 3 different types of funding for students from India who want to study in France.
- Research Internship Program - It is a scholarship in France for Indian students who wish to study in the programs in economics, engineering, and science, who want to do an internship in a French laboratory during their academic break of studies.
- Exchange Program - This Program offers a scholarship in France for Indian exchange students for a duration in the range of 1 – 4 months at the Master’s or Bachelor’s level. The scholarship which includes under the Charpak Exchange Program is the Charpak AME Scholarship.
- Master’s program - These French scholarships include the Charpak BCS Scholarship and the Charpak AME Scholarship. This scholarship in France is for Indian students at the post-graduation level in all fields and has a period of 1 – 2 years.
2. Raman-Charpak Fellowship
It is a scholarship in France for Indian students, meant for candidates pursuing PhD research at institutions of France for 2–6 months. Candidates with permanent positions in the universities and students supported by or in the framework of CEFIPRA don’t have the right for this French scholarship.
3. Eiffel Scholarship in France for international students
This Scholarship is an initiative of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. It is a scholarship for prospective Masters and PhD candidates in France. Applications for this scholarship in France for students from another country can only be submitted by higher education institutions of France.
Institutional Scholarships
These scholarships in France are offered directly by certain universities of France for prospective students to various programs at the bachelors and masters level. Some of the specific institutional scholarships in France for Indian students are given below.

Co-Financed/Joint Scholarships/french embassy scholarship
The Co-Financed or Joint scholarships in France for Indian students are joint ventures between the French Embassy in India and numerous societies or organizations of India. There are three French Embassy scholarships which fall under this category.
1. French Embassy – Neemrana Music Foundation Co-financed Scholarships for Music
2. French Embassy – Krishna Kriti Foundation Co-financed Scholarships for Fine Arts
3. Institut Mines-Telecom – French Embassy in India Scholarship
The scholarships offered here are:
- UGAM Legrand Scholarship
- Shikhar Thales scholarship programme
- Bahman Samandari scholarship programme
- Amba- Dalmia scholarship programme
Other scholarships are:
LA FEMIS
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and La Fémis jointly offer a summer program to foreign film and television students as well as young film industry professionals. The Embassy of France in India awards a scholarship for 2 months to an Indian student in France to attend this summer residency programme. The awardee receives a monthly stipend, return ticket, medical insurance expenses etc.
MAKE OUR PLANET GREAT AGAIN (MOPGA)
This scholarship is offered jointly by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI). International students who wish to pursue a master degree program at a French institution in specific fields of study can get the advantage of this scholarship.
THE ERASMUS+ MOBILITY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
Famous, Erasmus + scholarships program is also available for international students. It is a European Union scholarship programme. The Erasmus Mundus joint Master's offer is a study programme that awards scholarships to the students having academic excellence. It is offered for one or two years, regardless of their field of studies.
