The course for committed thinkers
If you want to understand how politics and economics work and how both systems are related, you need both: a solid knowledge of political science and economics. Every law that is made in politics has an impact on the economy. This applies not only to the lignite phase-out, the regulation of banks or an immigration law, but also to minimum wages, rental price brakes and diesel driving bans in city centers.
At the same time, well-organized economic sectors, such as the automotive industry, also try to influence decisions in politics. But in order to understand the connections between politics and business in such a way that solutions can also be designed, even more is needed: an understanding of historical and cultural, legal and moral framework conditions under which people in politics and business act.
Our PPÖ degree program thus offers added value: You not only acquire the necessary specialist knowledge in these three disciplines, but also learn, in particular in interface modules, how social problems can be analyzed from different perspectives. It is our aim that students learn to understand connections, analyze problems thoroughly and then come up with solutions.
Career advantage through diversity of perspectives
PPÖ graduates have something ahead of those who “only” study economics or politics. While they are looking for political or economic solutions within their specialist logic, PPOers have learned to think and analyze interdisciplinary and thus develop comprehensive concepts. Employers have also recognized these advantages, so that studying philosophy, politics and economics opens up attractive professional options in public administrations, in associations and clubs, foundations, NGOs or think tanks, but also in companies and the media. It is also an excellent basis for a subsequent master’s degree - specialized in one of the three disciplines or broader and interdisciplinary.
