  • Physics is the basis of all natural science, and the course of study is correspondingly broad. A 4-semester fundamental education, which includes experimental and theoretical physics, internships and no insignificant amount of mathematics is followed by a 4-semester deepening and specialization phase. In the specialization phase, some of the courses can be (but do not have to be) filled outside of physics (biology, chemistry or computer science...), such that a significant consideration of individual inclinations is possible. The 10-semester combination of Bachelor and Master, which is required for the full education, is offered in Marburg as 8+2 semesters. This achieves flexibility, which noticeably improves the introductory study phase, specialization according to personal preferences, a foreign semester or starting the program in the summer semester.

A variety of research fields are supported by research associations, such as biophysics and neurophysics, solid-state physics, interfacial physics and material physics. The physics of semiconductors, laser structures, light-material interaction, solar cell materials, strongly correlated materials or complex systems are examined. A Master's thesis normally follows a Bachelor's thesis.

To facilitate the introductory study phase, the first two "large" lectures in experimental physics are given a lot of time, in order to improve the acquisition of concepts and the practice of necessary skills. As an informal aid, an open tutorial by students for students has been offered for years.

In addition to the obvious acquisition of knowledge and skills in the actual subject, the Bachelor program trains analytical and problem-solving skills, team-building, communication and the handling of intensive or stressful phases during the course of study.

    Objectives

The Bachelor program in physics teaches students to handle and process scientific questions and to assess scientific outcomes. In doing so, the program prepares you to work as a physicist in business, industry, scientific research institutions and public administration. The possible professional fields are very broadly diversified and therefore frequently range beyond the narrower subject, far into related scientific and other disciplines.

A successfully completed bachelor's program not only enables you to take up a profession, but also qualifies you for a master's program at domestic and foreign universities.
