Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister on April 13 in New Delhi said that the country has set a target of welcoming 20,000 Indian students to France by 2025. While speaking at the event, he assured that Indian students will receive support during their stay in France. The minister also revealed that to boost student mobility between the two countries, he has appointed 15 Alumni Ambassadors who are chosen from the prestigious France Alumni network.

According to the sources, the ideas to build on student mobility between India and France and the experiences of Indian students living in France was discussed between the alumni ambassadors and the minister. These alumni ambassadors are leaders in their respective fields in India such as in the fields of science, management, art, culinary and social sciences and have. They signed a document that engages them in the Alumni Ambassadorship Programme.
Jaishankar, an Minister of External Affairs of India and Le Drian, French Foreign Minister discussed collaborating on areas of mutual interest. Both the heads recognized the “immense opportunities” by collaborating in several fields such as education, trade, research, defence, energy, climate change etc.
Le Drian also stressed his relationship with S Jaishankar by calling it a strong bond. He said he was late in reaching the embassy for the event as he was busy discussing so many things with his counterpart Union minister S Jaishankar. His words "We enjoy such a strong relationship that I got late," prove it.
On 22nd August 2019, French Prime Minister Emanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had their first bilateral meeting near Paris in Chateau de Chantilly. Both the leaders acknowledged how similar both the countries are in terms of regional and global issues, along with the importance of the Indo-French relationship for both the nations. Educational cooperation was also part of their talk to develop the person-to-person and cultural relationship between India and France. In March 2018, an MoU was also signed between India and France to recognise each other’s degrees of different levels.

Five years ago, there were 3000 students in France. In 2019, France had a target of 10,000 Indian Students studying in France. With that being successfully achieved this year, France now aims to have 20,000 Indian Students studying in France by 2025, double the number than it is right now.
Minister Le Drian said, “We have set a target — it is to have 20,000 Indian students in France by 2025, and we will make it. We want to bring French and Indian youth even closer. We will support the students during their stay in France. Living in France is quite something,” he said.
