PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree at HPU involves the application of engineering principles to electrical systems and devices for purposes of diagnostics, maintenance, innovation or design, development, testing and commissioning with core expertise in electrical circuits, signals and systems, control and microcontroller systems, electronics, digital hardware, communications technology, embedded systems, and power. Students apply fundamentals in topics of electricity, electromagnetism, and electronics to proceed toward specialization in advanced topics, such as computer architecture, network engineering, renewable energy, robotics and automation, intelligent control, image and audio processing, and modeling of engineering process-based systems. The program offers students a concentration in Engineering Sustainability. Additionally, students have an  option to undertake a Thesis and one extra semester of study to attain a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with Honors. Graduates can find employment in a wide variety of industries such as heavy industry and manufacturing, government roles, consultancy firms in engineering and business, instrumentation, aviation, robotics, building and construction, healthcare, hospitality, military, and many other areas.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

  • General Education courses are required throughout the degree, where students select one course from each Category for a total of 12 General Education courses. Three categories comprise courses that are required for the Major (ENGE 1000, CHEM 2050, MATH 2214).
  • The first 1.5 years of the Program requires Major courses that strengthen student background in Calculus, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Fundamentals in Engineering, including Introduction to Engineering Systems and Professional Practice, and Linear Circuits.
  • Year 2 semester 2 and Year 3 focus on developing technical prowess in areas of Communications, Digital Hardware, Microcontrollers, Electronics, Signals, Electromagnetics and Control Systems. Students also undertake a one yearproject course where they work in teams to design and develop a novel Engineering solution to a real-world problem.
  • Year 4 focuses on specialization by choice of electives in advanced areas, such as Control, Signal Processing, Sensors, Renewable Energy Sources, Robotics andAutomation.
