  • Masters in Biology

  • Biologists research the relationships in nature on different levels - from molecular structures to genes and cells to individual living beings and entire ecosystems. The findings of biology are the basis for innovations in medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and environmental protection. The Master in Biology is a research-oriented course that builds on a previous Bachelor's degree or comparable university degree in biology. On the one hand, it conveys in-depth professional knowledge as well as theoretical and practical skills across the entire breadth of the subject. On the other hand, it enables professional and scientific specialization in the areas of "biodiversity, ecology and evolution" as well as "molecular biology and biotechnology".
  • Course structure
  • The standard period of study including the master's thesis is four semesters. The compulsory course consists of an introductory module, a module for acquiring key qualifications and a final phase consisting of a project study and master's thesis. In addition, there is a wide range of elective and elective modules.

  • In contrast to other natural sciences such as chemistry or pharmacy, the professional field for biologists is relatively broad. Graduates of the master’s program in biology are qualified for further scientific work with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. You work primarily at universities and research institutes as well as for companies in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries.
  • Other professional fields are in the health sector, e.g. B. in the laboratories of hospitals, or in botanical and zoological gardens and nature parks, in environmental protection, in landscape planning, in waste management or in medical and pharmaceutical practice. Biologists can also work in public administration or in associations, organizations or management consultancies and in editorial offices.
